Three persons were reported killed in Gwiwan Kogi village
the early hours of yesterday by people suspected to be Fulani mercenaries and
some houses burnt at Zamchang village, all in Wase Local Government Council of
Plateau State.
Coordinator of Stephanus Foundation, a Jos based
nongovernmental organisation, Mark Lipdo said the attackers invaded the two
villages in the night and were shooting at random, forcing villagers to run for
cover.
He disclosed that the Fulani herdsmen had razed over 12
houses before the villagers trooped out to form barricade at Bakinrijiya to
repel them from further harm.
Lipdo appealed to the law enforcement agencies to step in
and prevent another round of killings in Plateau State, saying this present
development is giving many people concern as it is coming when peace appeared
to have been restored in the state.
One of the villagers who did not want his name in print
disclosed on phone that the soldiers who later arrived Gwiwankogi told them
they were prepared to kill anybody they found with arms. He could however not
confirm if any arrest was made.
Spokesman of the Special Task Force STF on Jos crisis
Captain Salisu Mustapha when contacted confirmed that there was an attack in
Gwiwankogi village of Wase local government of the state, but could not confirm
the casualty figure.
