SANTA MONICA, Calif., June 8 (Reuters) - The gunman who killed four people in a shooting rampage in Santa Monica before he was slain by police at a community college in the California seaside town was once a student there and had a brush with the law several years ago as a teenager, police said on Saturday.

Santa Monica Police Chief Jacqueline Seabrooks also revealed that several students at the college survived Friday's shootings by hiding in an interior room of the library and piling up heavy objects against the door as the gunman fired through the walls at them.

Santa Monica College was placed on lockdown Friday after reports that a suspect fired a gun inside a campus building just before noon.

Five people -- including the gunman -- are dead after a shooting rampage that began at a residence and ended on campus. Several people are being treated for their wounds; one was critically wounded, one is in serious but stable condition and three had minor injuries, confirmed Santa Monica Police Sergeant Richard Lewis during an 8:20 p.m. PST press conference.

Banker Sentenced to Death by Hanging for Murdering Wife

An Abia State High Court has sentenced a banker, Mr. Theophilus Ajakaiye, to death by hanging for killing his wife, Theodora.

The convict allegedly murdered his wife on October 12, 2009 at Azumini Ndoki in the Ukwa Judicial Division of Abia.

Man steals goat, stabs father to death for not defending him.

A 21-year-old man,  Samuel Eyo Nsa, has stabbed his  78-year-old father, Chief Eyo Nsa, to death at Eseko village, Creek Town in Odukpani Local Government Area of the state.

His reason: the late father allegedly  refused to defend him after he was caught stealing a neighbour’s  goat.

The incident happened on Children’s Day when Samuel decided to celebrate the day with a goat stolen from a neighbour, Otobong Matthew, with  which he prepared pepper soup to entertain his friends.
